Exercise

The benefits of exercise have been long known to increase health.  A new study reported that exercising for half an hour three to five times a week is just as effective as medication in reducing the symptoms of depression.  The best part is that the only side effects are as expected, healthy ones.  In the first study to look at exercise alone in treating mild to moderate depression in adults aged 20 to 45, researchers at U of T South Western Medical Center in Dallas, found that depressive symptoms were reduced almost fifty percent in individuals who participated in thirty minute aerobic exercise sessions three to five times a week.   This is an added benefit to the more obvious physical improvements such as increased circulation, vitality and muscle strength.  Improved blood circulation is a wonderful side effect which can dramatically improve skin tone, colour and healing ability as increased oxygen and nutrition make their way to skin cells.

Exercise is an important part of your overall health plan, which can make your goal of weight loss that much easier to attain and maintain.  Remember that a healthy body that functions effectively won’t have a weight problem as all the systems of the body are working at peak efficiency.  This ensures that the metabolism matches the appetite and uses up blood sugars with none left over to be turned into fat.
